OLYMPIA, Wash.
– The Oly Town Artesians erased an 8-2 deficit in the third quarter and got to within a goal in the fourth quarter but couldn’t close the deal and fell 10-8 to Sporting Everett FC on a frigid Saturday night at The Pavilion at The Evergreen State College. After scoring just one goal in the first half, the Artesians exploded for seven second half goals and the two teams combined to score 12 goals in the final 30 minutes of play warming up the crowd in what was the coldest game in WISL history. Temperature in the semi-indoor Pavilion was 38 degrees at first kick.

Sporting Everett got on the board first with a goal from Carlos Betancourt and Jordan Correa added another at the 5:07 mark. The Artesians cut into the two goal lead when Greg Wolfe slammed home a ball in front of the goal. But it was the last goal the Artesians would score in the first half. Mark Conrad scored on a direct free kick a minute and a half into the second quarter and Brayton Knapp and Mitch Reinhart each added a goal and the half ended with Everett solidly in the lead 5-1.

Everett increased their lead to 6-1 early in the third on a goal by Corey Hendrickson. Then the Artesians finally got back on the board when Justin La Torre touched in a shot from Nate Boatright at the 10:40 mark. But goalkeeper Jeff Renslo scored on long ball that skipped it’s way untouched through traffic and Hendrickson hit for his second goal of the game to give Everett an 8-2 lead all that last all the way until the buzzer of the third quarter.

It all turned around with no time left in the third when Brady Espinoza scored just a moment before the buzzer sounded starting a five goal run for the Artesians. Jake Sanford hit with 12:40 left, Everett scored an own goal three minutes later, Espinoza scored his second goal of the game with 8:04 left and Boatright drilled a shot that drew the Artesians to within a goal at 8-7 with 3:10 left.

But just 19 seconds later, Everett was awarded a penalty kick on a tackle in the box and Jordan Correa beat Artesians goalkeeper Evan Munn to give them a 9-7 lead. Andrew Escalante finished the scoring for Everett for a three goal lead with 1:25 left. Marco Monzon scored with 49 seconds left for the Artesians but it was too little too late and the Oly dropped to 1-3-1 this season with the 10-8 decision.

The Artesians return to action next Saturday night when they play host to Bellingham United. First kick at The Pavilion is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
