OLYMPIA, Wash. – Matt Stalnik tied a team record with four goals and goalkeeper JJ Olson held the high powered Olympic Force (0-1) at bay in the Oly Town Artesians (1-0) 10-6 win in front of a packed house on Austin Kelley night at The Pavilion. The 10 goals tied a team record for most goals in a game by the Artesians and the loss was the first road loss in the history of the Olympic Force franchise.

A scramble in front of the net led to the first goal of the Western Indoor Soccer League season when Matt Stalnik headed it home from point blank past Force goalkeeper Marshall Reece to give the Artesians a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Kyle Johnson evened the score and the first period would come to an end at 1-1.

But the Artesians took control in the second quarter and never looked back. Kyle Wiese opened the scoring at the 7:54 mark before an own goal by the Artesians on a deflection tied the game at 2-2. Goals by Alex Castillo, Stalnik and one by Chris Pugh with 21 seconds left in the quarter gave Oly Town a 5-3 lead heading into the break.

Victor Kelmel tightened things up for the Force with an early goal in the third period that made it 5-4, but again the Artesians answered with Stalnik’s third goal of the night and one from Jake Sanford at the 1:36 mark pushing the lead to 7-4 at the end of three.

Simba Sumoza scored his second goal of the night to make it 7-5, but once again the Artesians held off the Force and scored the next two goals, including Stalnik’s fourth and a slow rolling goal by Willie Spurr into an empty net that was vacated by Olympic’s extra attacker. Jamie Barnwell scored his first goal as an Artesian with 1:06 left to play to seal the deal in the 10-6 victory.

The Artesians will take their first road trip of the 2016-2017 season when they travel to Everett next Saturday night. First kick at the Everett Soccer Arena is scheduled for 7:30 PM. They will return home on December 3rd when they face Wenatchee in a non-league friendly scheduled for 6:00 PM.
