Artesians Announce Changes to Tryout Schedule, WISL Awards

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Oly Town Artesians have revised their tryout times and locations for their inaugural season in the Evergreen Premier League. Tryouts are now scheduled for Thursday, March 23rd at 6:00 PM at The Evergreen State College, Saturday, March 25th at 3:00 PM at Evergreen, and Sunday, March 26th at 11:00 AM on the turf field at South Sound Stadium at North Thurston High School.

Tryouts are $20 and cover all three sessions. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be found at www.olytownfc.com/tryouts. Players with questions can email the Artesians at olytownartesians@gmail.com.

The Artesians held their annual post-season banquet on Monday night and handed out awards for the 2016-2017 Western Indoor Soccer League season.

MVP & Offensive Player of the Year: Willie Spurr – Scored 14 goals and dished out 11 assists to lead the Artesians in both categories. His 14 goals are the most in a season by an Artesian. Oly Town went 4-3-1 with him in the lineup but 0-3-0 in games that he missed.

Defensive Player of the Year: Matt Herrera – Played in all 11 games locking down the backline and contributing seven goals. Has played in every game since joining the Artesians for the 2015-2016 season.

Austin Kelley Player’s Choice Award: Kyle Wiese – Helped guide the club during coaching transition and continued as a captain. Fought through a hamstring injury early in the season and played multiple positions, eventually moving to defense to provide depth after a rash of injuries.

Coach’s Choice Award: Josh Dube – A newcomer this season from Wyoming via Gonzaga University, Dube played defense in every game putting his body on the line numerous times for the Artesians. He was a positive and consistent presence for Coach Finn’s squad.

Owner’s Award: Ray Finn – Finn took over the Artesians shortly before the start of the regular season after an injury sidelined previous coach Jason Gjertsen for the season. Despite never coaching indoor soccer before, Finn quickly won the respect of his players and led the Artesians to a playoff berth.
