TUKWILA, Wash. – The Oly Town Artesians scored three goals in two minutes early in the second half to cruise to a 3-0 victory over the Lacey Pocket Gophers on Friday night at the Eddie Craggs Memorial Evergreen Cup.
Yelm alum and former OKC Energy midfielder Daniel Gonzalez opened the scoring with a penalty shot goal following a handball in the box by a Pocket Gopher defender. Alex Gonzalez (no relation) put the Artesians up 2-0 moments later, gathering a ball in the box and popping it past the Lacey keeper. And just a minute later, Jake Zimmerman took advantage of basically the same play and sealed the deal with his first goal of the tournament.
The Artesians dominated possession throughout the game but were unable to break through in the first half. Meanwhile, Lacey had a couple opportunities playing long balls up in the first half and had a goal wiped out by an offside call, but Oly Town head coach Matt Herrera – making a spot start in goal – faced just one shot on goal during the game.
Oly Town returns to Starfire on Saturday to take on the Seattle Stars at 3:00 PM and the Tri-Cities Alliance at 7:00 PM. Tri-Cities knocked off Seattle 5-2 in their first game of the Evergreen Cup.
