OLYMPIA, Wash. – Haley Roberson and Haylee Ward both recorded braces and Kyla Carter kept a clean sheet to lead the Oly Town Artesians women to a 5-0 win over the Olympia Olys on Saturday afternoon at Black Hills High School. Kailey Utley added a goal and three assists for the Artesians and they improved to 3-0-1 in their inaugural season.
Playing a friendly against a mixed group of players from Washington Premier, Blackhills FC and other clubs, Haley Roberson opened the scoring in the third minute of play off of a pass from Kailey Utley and gave Oly Town a 1-0 lead. Utley then fired a rocket past the Oly’s keeper in the 12th minute to give the Artesians a 2-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Utley chipped a ball to Roberson and she finished to make a 3-0 game. The two teams would battle for a scoreless final 25 minutes of the half and went to the break with the Artesians up 3-0.
Haylee Ward took over the game in the opening moments of the second half scoring in the 46th minute on Utley’s third assist to make it 4-0 and then added another in the 50th minute to make it 5-0. Goalkeeper Kyla Carter made a handful of saves in the second half to keep the clean sheet behind fantasic defensive play by Delaney Smith, Julia Hass and Celia Scruton, among others. On the other side, the Oly’s Vanessa Crisp made numerous plays to keep the score at 5-0 and the game came to a close with the Artesians taking the 5-0 win.
With the win, the Artesians improved to 3-0-1 in their first season of outdoor play with one more game set to be announced shortly. Oly Town would like to thank all the members of the Olympia Olys for coming out at the last minute and playing when it looked like the game might have to be cancelled after the team the Artesians were supposed to play couldn’t field a full squad.
