OLYMPIA, Wash. – Oly Town struck early when defender, Niki Covert, scored her first goal of the season in the first minute of Saturday’s game against the Whatcom Waves. Whatcom kept the game tight, but in the second half Oly Town scored eight goals extending their lead beyond reach leaving the Pavilion with a 14-7 win over Whatcom.
Niki Covert, Kailey Utley, Erin Danielson, and Chelsie Still all scored in the first quarter. However, Whatcom also managed to secure three goals. First quarter ended with Oly Town in the lead 4-3.
Oly Town scored the first two goals of the second quarter with a goal from Lily Dose, and one from Kaily Utley, her second of the night. Oly Town extended their lead 6-3, but before the quarter ended, Whatcom #5 Kacie Emerick brought the score to 6-4 right before half time.
The first nine minutes of the second half was a great defensive battle for both teams. With 6:14 left in the third quarter, Niki Covert scored her second of the night bringing Oly Town’s lead up 7-4. Less than two minutes were left in the third quarter when Kailey Utley scored her third and fourth of the night! What looked to be a scoreless third quarter for Whatcom became a turn of events. Whatcom #10, Teya Mischaikov scored with just 19 second left in the third quarter. Oly Town was up 7-5.
Oly Town exploded in the fourth quarter with five goals! Lily Dose scored her second of the night, Iris Campesino and Celia Scruton both scored their first of the night, and Jenna Killman got a pair of goals!
Whatcom attempted to close the gap but was only able to secure two goals in the fourth quarter. Whatcom goalkeeper Ashley Homer recorded 58 saves in the night. This victory brought Oly Town’s record to 2-2-0.
