Oly Town 2 Lane United 2
OLYMPIA, WA — The Oly Town Artesians tied against Lane United in front of 270 fans at South Sound Stadium last Sunday to squeeze one point to stay in second place. The Northwest Division of USL League Two (USL2) features an undefeated Ballard FC who bludgeoned the Artesians 5-0 last Friday as well as a winless PDX FC. The divisional extremes are providing a battle for the second USL regional playoff seed in which Oly Town, Lane United and Capital FC are currently battling for.

Oly Town gave up a penalty kick for Lane to draw first blood on Sunday. Charlie Lanphier made the short diving save but the ball popped right back to the shooter for a tap in. The Artesians soon responded by University of Washington’s Keegan Yorke after a high cross in the penalty box found Yorke’s head to even the score 1-1. Oly Town would go into half with a Gabe Fernandez early game injury scare which ended up only being a contusion with Fernandez able to walk on his own accord and in good spirits.
The decisive moments would come in the final minutes after Jason Fairhurst exited the match with a head injury that forced backup Oly Town goalkeeper Dante Perez to come in as an emergency sub due to the Artesians utilizing all five substitutions already in the game. Dante would do the unthinkable and immediately scored the go ahead goal off a low crossing pass from Chris Peretti to make it 2-1 Oly Town in stoppage time.

The celebration would be short-lived as Lane marched down the field a minute later and scored the tying goal with seconds left in stoppage time. The draw eerily reminiscent of Lane United’s 89th minute tying goal in Olympia back in 2022.
The draw added a point for each team that both needed to stay in the hunt for a second seed. Capital FC lost against United PDX which was their first win in their USL Men’s franchise history and puts them squarely into 5th place.
Oly Town men’s side has a 12-day break from action as they head to Ballard on June 23rd for the second time this year and a third meeting against their in-state rival. Oly Town has given up 9 goals in two matches to Ballard and look to even the scales after a mid-year break.
The men return home July 2nd at 1PM against Capital FC for Military, Police and Fire Appreciation Night. Tickets available at olytownfc.com.
