Technical Staff

Chris Wells | USL W League Head Coach

Coach Wells signed with Oly Town in December 2022 for the 2023 USL W League season. Chris is a recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for Division One Seattle University Women’s Soccer. Wells most recently served as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Highline College for five years. Wells helped win a WAC regular-season title in 2021 for Seattle U.  Wells served a key role on the Redhawks’ staff and helps with the program’s recruiting efforts. Wells helped Highline to a Northwest Athletic Conference title in 2017, as the team went 19-0-1. The Thunderbirds won at least 14 games in each of Wells’ five seasons with the team. Wells was named 2017 Northwest Premier League Coach of the Year after guiding the Stars to a 9-1-0 record and a regular season title. Prior to that stint, Wells was a volunteer assistant with the Seattle Reign for three seasons. The Reign won two National Women’s Soccer League Shields in his tenure.

Liviu Bird | USL League Two Head Coach

Coach Liviu signed in December 2022 to helm the 2023 USL2 Franchise for Oly Town.  Liviu Bird coached at Columbus Crew, Kitsap Pumas, Seattle Sounders U23 and at Pacific Lutheran University.  Liviu comes to Olympia with a USSF A License and UEFA A License, as well as an array of nationwide experience as an analyst and journalist.  Most notable was his MLS Cup championship win as a Columbus Crew video analysis coach.  Liviu played as a goalkeeper at Seattle Pacific University and moved into coaching shortly after graduating.  Liviu resides in Silverdale with his wife and one daughter.

Rachel Ross | USL W League Assistant Coach

Rachel joins the Oly Town FC crew again as before she helmed the Artesian Women’s first ever outdoor exhibition series summer with a 4-0-1 record. She is a decorated Pacific Lutheran University Soccer standout with two years of All Conference and a D3 All Region athlete. Ross is a staff coach at Washington Premier and an ECNL Assistant Coach.

Ozer Kocdemir | USL League Two Assistant Coach

Ozer joined the Artesians for the USL League Two 2023 season as an assistant coach and video analyst. Kocdemir was honored in the Tacoma News Tribune as 3A Coach of the Year from the SCC division where he brought Peninsula High School its first ever Boys Soccer League Title. Ozer is well verse in film analysis and player applications. Kocdemir also coaches at Washington Premier for various ages and is originally from Sweden where he played comparable path to professional soccer.

Nick Boatright | Arena Men’s Head Coach

Nick Boatright joined the club formally in 2021 as Assistant EPLWA Coach for Jason Gjertsen. Nick has racked up a number of coaching accolades during his tenure at Timberline High School, Black Hills Football Club, Oly Town Artesians, Cascadia Premier League and the Evergreen State College Men’s Soccer Program. Nick was promoted to Head Western Indoor Soccer League Coach for the Artesians October 2022.

Operations

Vanessa Crisp | USL W League Team Director

Vanessa Crisp joined the Oly Town Artesians the inaugural women’s indoor team year in 2020. Crisp has played goalkeeper multiple seasons for the Artesians indoor team and also assisted in game day management for the NWPL Championship Winning Team in 2022. Crisp was promoted to USL W League Team Director just days after USL announced westward expansion that included Oly Town FC. Vanessa is a long-time soccer player and enthusiast and a native of Olympia.

Patrick Hutnik | Oly Town FC Operations Director

Pat Hutnick joins the Oly Town FC having served in the Olympia Community for over a decade and a significant contributor to local soccer. Hutnick played high level youth soccer before turning over to coaching in adulthood. Pat is a longtime law enforcement officer and current City of Olympia Detective. Pat provides organizational leadership and assists in all community facing projects, game day and future planning for Oly Town. Pat resides in Olympia with his wife and kid’s.

Joseph Renaud | USL & Arena Game Day Manager

Joey is a long time soccer player and enthusiast from Olympia, WA. Joey played local club soccer and played Varsity Soccer at North Thurston High School. Valedictorian and Graduate of University of Washington and Pacific Optometry School, Joey handles game day activities and management for the Oly Town FC. Joey works and resides in Olympia, WA and can be found helping players, fans and staff at every game day.

Liz Register | Foundation Board Member

Liz has a Bachelors in Business Administration, Master’s Degree in Project Management and Project Management Professional Certification and over a decade of implementing organizational change and implementing processes with regional and global firms. Her skillsets are contributing to the large change Oly Town FC is experiencing as well as overseeing milestones and operational excellence of the Oly Soccer Foundation. Liz enjoys the outdoors and activities with her 4 boys.

Julie Smith | Club Event Design & Management

Julie comes to the Artesians first as a Sponsor with GGCW Renovations in Spring of 2021 and then entered into ownership in November 2021. Julie has years of event management experience as well as administrative excellence. Game Day Design, Fundraiser Auctions and Community Events are all hallmark traditions of Oly Town which are led by Julie Smith. Julie resides in Mason County with her husband Jason and their kid’s.

Executive Team

Jason Smith | USL General Manager & Part Owner

Jason Smith hails from Shelton, WA and has been a local soccer coach for decades including playing at advanced, adult competitive tournaments and leagues. Smith joined the club officially in 2021 and took on the USL League Two Head Coaching duties and placed 4th place in his first year including a 1st Place Super Cup Finish. Jason also coaches at Black Hills Football Club, the regions largest youth club based out of Olympia. Jason played soccer for Tumwater High School and has since been a standout Varsity and Youth Coach. Jason and his wife Julie have four children, all of them play soccer!

Ryan Perkins | Partnerships & Principal Owner

Ryan Perkins acquired the club in 2021 and since formed an ownership group to help move the Artesians into the USL National Franchise Market. Perkins is a former Goalkeeper and Partnerships Director for the Artesians since 2017. Ryan played for Premier One Clubs in youth winning multiple state titles including traveling to Mexico and Germany with the Seattle Sounders and was an All-American Goalkeeper voted AP All-State for Washington State. Graduated from the University of Washington where he was on scholarship for the Washington Huskies. Ryan resides in Lacey, WA with his partner Elizabeth and their 4 children.
