Artesians Wallop Pocket Gophers 7-0

OLYMPIA, Wash. – A day after unveiling their new kits in Downtown Olympia, the Oly Town Artesians continued the celebration by hanging seven goals on the crosstown Lacey Pocket Gophers in a preseason Thurston County Derby game at Black Hills High School. Surf Wodajo opened the scoring in the third minute and Khalil Bredeson scored twice for Oly Town.

Sporting their brand-new slate jerseys featuring new partners Well 80 Artesian Brewing, Jimmy John’s, and Hotel RL, the Artesians earned a free kick just outside of the box minutes into the contest. Surf Wodajo fired the kick into the middle and it skipped past multiple Lacey defenders and found the back of the net. Shane Gutierrez gave Oly Town a 2-0 lead six minutes later and Geo Vazquez added one more in the 36th minute and the Artesians held a 3-0 lead at the half.

Christian Segovia put Oly up 4-0 in the 58th minute, Daniele Zaccagnini scored off a pass from David Cook in the 63rd, and then Khalil Bredeson recorded his brace with goals just a minute apart in the 82nd and 83rd minutes.

Artesians goalkeepers Ben Stevenson (first half) and JJ Olson (second half) didn’t see much action in blanking the Pocket Gophers. They faced just three shots on goal all game in a dominating performance that set the club record for biggest win and most goals in a game.

Next up for Oly Town is a visit to Saint Martin’s on Saturday, April 27th at 3:00 PM to take on the Saints in the Artesians’ last preseason friendly.
